Is it legal to draw a statue?
Hi, just wondering if the image of a statue is copyrighted in the same way as photographs? I'd love to draw a statue that's been recently completed by a local artist
I'd appreciate your thoughts
Thanks Margaret

Hi Margaret
I always worry about whether reproducing things ideas etc. is legal. (So many people seem to draw from photos of celebrities without, I am sure, getting permission, which I am sure it is not fully legal.) I would at least reference the statue in the title, but, honestly, I would try to contact the artist or the owners of the site the sculpture is at. Perhaps you would get to meet the artist, which would be an extra bonus, and also let the site owners/artist know of your own wonderful work, and you would probably find out some useful information about the legalities of copyright. Perhaps the owners would want to buy the finished work off you. All I can see are benefits of contacting the artist/site owners.
