There is a very interesting post on a blog I usually read about the number of artists in US.

This is fascinating, Ilaria. Thanks for posting it.

...it tends to suggest that fine art is a precarious career.

No surprise there.
They talk about a decline in the number of artists over the years. One possible reason they don't mention is that a large portion of animation is now being done overseas.

Number of fine artists in the United States, including painters,
sculptors and illustrators.......................30,000

I would love to know how many of these are illustrators.

Of the artists who were not self-employed, many worked for advertising and related services; newspaper, periodical, book, and software publishers; motion picture and video industries; specialized design services; and computer systems design...

Why would computer systems designers be thought of as artists?
I also wonder about the table that shows some of the relatively high incomes and including categories like “Motor Vehicle Manufacturing” and “Management, Scientific and Technical Consulting Services.” I wonder if they are including graphic designers and car designers in the “artists” category.
I also found it interesting that there were high concentrations of artists in Florida (due to Disney, I imagine) and California (in the movie business, I guess).
